Jack Dorsey Departs from Bluesky Board, Describes X as ‘Freedom Technology’

Dorsey has even been more active in Elon’s owned X. He described the platform as a ‘freedom technology’ after advising people not to depend on public corporations to grant them rights.

Jack Dorsey, the former Twitter CEO, revealed his departure from Bluesky’s board. Bluesky is a decentralized social media platform he founded in 2019 while still on Twitter (now X). Dorsey made his exit known in a post on X after he was asked if he was still on the Bluesky board, to which he responded with a direct ‘no’. He did not state any reasons behind his departure, despite a series of follow-up questions asking him why.

Bluesky Confirms Dorsey’s Departure and Search for a New Board Member

Bluesky confirmed his exit from the team in a post on their social media platform. They announced their need for a new board member and extended thank-you wishes to Jack for founding and starting the project. The post on Bluesky reads:

“We sincerely thank Jack for his help funding and initiating the Bluesky project… With Jack’s departure, we are searching for a new board member for the Bluesky public benefit company who shares our commitment to building a social network that puts people in control of their experience.”

During his time as Twitter CEO,  Dorsey announced via a lengthy post on his page that the micro-blogging platform was providing financial support to a small group of individuals, which included professionals in fields such as architecture, engineering, and design, to develop an open and decentralized standard for social media. From that period on, the company became an independent public corporation, launching its beta version in March 2023 and becoming available to the public in February 2024. According to its stats, it boasts around 5.6 million users and over 232 million posts.

However, despite Jack being the frontrunner of Bluesky, the rumour went viral last year that he had deleted his account, which was revealed by Bruce Wilson on X. The news, however, was never acknowledged as true or false.

Jack’s Love for X Continues

BigTechAlert, a company that follows up on what top entities, including CEOs and executives, are doing on X, shared on its page that Jack has unfollowed over 2000 people on his X account. This was revealed after he announced his departure from Bluesky. According to the post, the only three people he is now following are Stella Assange, Elon Musk, and Edward Snowden.

Dorsey has even been more active in Elon’s owned X. He described the platform as a ‘freedom technology’ after advising people not to depend on public corporations to grant them rights. Instead, they should use Elon’s X.

The tech guru’s assessment of X as a technology of freedom and his refusal to unfollow Elon show that the two have been able to settle their rift. He previously slammed the billionaire businessman for not handling the platform well enough and blamed the former Twitter board for forcing the sale of the media platform on him.
